Celebrating Black History Month Through the Lens of Art and Collaboration

In honor of Black History Month, I embarked on a creative journey to produce a lifestyle product photoshoot that celebrates a remarkable collaboration between Our Own, a dedicated nonprofit organization, and Pressed Juicery, a well-known brand committed to promoting health and wellness. This partnership aims to enhance access to mental health, nutrition, education, and physical fitness, working tirelessly to bridge the gap and advance spatial equity and social justice.

As a Black artist myself, I am thrilled to witness the opportunities this collaboration presents for fellow Black creatives. Talented artists such as Cortney Herron, Sydnee Bethel, and Julian Jamaal Jones have crafted custom labels for Pressed Juicery, each one a testament to their incredible artistry. Their spectacular work is distinguished by meticulous attention to detail, a vibrant array of colors, and a unique style that speaks volumes.

The core concept of my photoshoot was to capture the essence of a young, health-conscious woman as she enjoys her day at the park, seamlessly integrating the brand into her lifestyle. Set against the vibrant backdrop of downtown Greensboro, the model, Kristyona, brought this vision to life with her natural and organic poses, perfectly embodying the spirit of health and wellness.

What truly inspired me was Our Own’s mission statement, which struck a profound chord within me. According to their website, their mission is to dismantle systemic barriers and create essential access to nutrition, education, entrepreneurship, maternal health, mental and physical fitness, striving to bridge the gap and ensure racial equity and social justice. In capturing these images, I hope to not only showcase the beauty and vibrancy of the collaboration but also to highlight the powerful message of unity, empowerment, and progress that underpins this partnership. Together, through art and action, we can contribute to a future where equity and justice are within reach for all.
